François-Auguste Gevaert died on Christmas eve of 1908. Five days later he received a state funeral. The English music magazine summarized his richly lived life as follows: ‘In fact, he was one of the rare musicians who combine with exceptional talents for composition the gifts of the deep thinker and powerful writer on the origin, development and scientific aspect of their art’.
