“Historical concert” in the Brussels Conservatoire. Gevaert at a harpsichord by Joseph Albert Hass.
Like his predecessors, Fétis in Brussels and Peter Benoit in Antwerp, Gevaert considered the duties of the conservatoire in a broader sense than just educating future performers and composers. Following the parisian example he established the ‘Société des Concerts du Conservatoire’. The emphasis was especially on the performance of early music, in addition to which he was exploring historical music instruments.
