Paris, Opéra Péletier, 19th century.

Meanwhile Gevaert was well settled in ‘la vie parisienne’. He was in close touch with the court of Napoléon III, he was a member of the French Society of Operacomposers and he was officially commissioned for compositions. In 1867 he was appointed as ‘Directeur de la musique’ of the Opéra. This prestigious designation meant the end of his career as an opera composer. His ‘grand opéra’ Roger de Flor was never performed.
