
Georgette is the first opera by Gevaert performed on stage in Paris. This one-acter was first performed on 27 November 1853 in the Théâtre-Lyrique. It was Vaëz who wrote the libretto about the female miller Georgette and her four lovers. Georgette was a succesfull opera, giving Gevaert new opportunities.
After that, there followed seven operas, all performed by the Théâtre Lyrique or by the Opéra-Comique.
In 1861, he wrote for the health resort Baden-Baden the opéra-comique Les deux amours.
