In Spain Gevaert composed among others his Fantasia sobre motivos españoles. This orchestral fantasy was so successful that Queen Isabel II from Spain knighted him and granted him an allowance to publish his work. The Fantasy has been performed several times with success and the piano version was very popular in Spain for years.
