Gevaert’s growing reputation was confirmed by the performance of his psalm Super flumina Babylonis at the third meeting of the Vlaemsch-Duitsch Zangverbond in Ghent from 26 to 28 June 1847. According to the paper De Eendragt dating from 4 July 1847 the psalm was nominated “an extremely remarkable piece by its high-German musical fame”
The Vlaemsch-Duetsch Zangverbond was a Pan-germanic and anti-French inspired choir which strongly dynamised the Flemish choral life in the middle of the 1840s.
